What is Tailwind CSS?

Tailwind CSS is a utility-first CSS framework that provides a set of pre-defined CSS classes that can be used to quickly style HTML elements. It allows developers to build custom user interfaces without having to write custom CSS. Tailwind CSS is highly customizable and promotes consistency across projects, making it a popular choice for developers who want to streamline their development process and maintain a consistent design aesthetic. It is also highly responsive, providing classes for different screen sizes, making it easy to create responsive designs. Overall, Tailwind CSS is a powerful tool that can help developers save time and create beautiful, consistent and responsive designs.

How to add Tailwind CSS to your Website?

  1. Install the Tailwind CSS package: You can install Tailwind CSS using npm by running the following command:

     npm install -D tailwindcss

  2. Create a Tailwind CSS configuration file: Run the following command to generate a basic configuration file:

     npx tailwindcss init

  3. Configure your template paths. To do that, Add the paths to all of your template files in your tailwind.config.js file:

     /** @type {import('tailwindcss').Config} */
     module.exports = {
       content: ["./src/**/*.{html,js}"],
       theme: {
         extend: {},
       },
       plugins: [],
     }

  4. Add the Tailwind directives to your CSS. To do that, add the @tailwind directives for each of Tailwind’s layers to your main CSS file:

     @tailwind base;
     @tailwind components;
     @tailwind utilities;

  5. Integrate Tailwind CSS into your build process: Depending on the build tool you are using, you'll need to integrate Tailwind CSS into your build process. If you're using a CSS pre-processor, you'll need to configure it to import the "tailwind.css" file.

  6. Add the generated CSS to your HTML file: After your build process has run, a CSS file will be generated. Add the reference to this file to the <head><head/> of your HTML file.

  7. Add Tailwind CSS classes to your HTML: You can now start adding Tailwind CSS classes to your HTML elements. You can find a list of all the available classes in the Tailwind CSS documentation.

  8. Customize the tailwind config file according to your needs.
